Calling all vendors with vim and vigor: ABC Innovation is conducting a search for an off-the-shelf Web CMS that will sweep it off its feet and rescue it from implementation disillusionment.

The dream system will help “produce, manage and deliver content for ABC Online and its associated properties,” explains Computerworld.

Widen Reminds Us: Photos Are Content Too!

…and they’re darn deserving of their own online management tools.

Coming December 1st, Widen Enterprises will debut Media Collective 5.0 and Backdrop, a photography approval tool.

Widen provides digital asset management solutions in a manner most SaaSy. (Work remotely! Awesoooome.)

The v5 release of Media Collective sports:

  • Advanced asset versioning tools
  • Conflict resolution for duplicate assets (YES!)
  • Shared multi-page reviews in Adobe
  • Ad and brochure-building options
  • Backdrop, a tool that routs and approves photos

With Backdrop, photographers can upload images directly onto the platform for comments and approval — you know, like a document. Admins can also build automated actions for typical events in the approval process, making image publishing, review and storage less time-consuming.

Visit the Widen website for more info. (Turn down your volume unless you dig the idea of a Widen testimonial deluge.)

By Angela Natividad  ::  Filed Under » Web CMS

cms_myth.jpg

At Gilbane Boston this week, ISITE Design launched CMS Myth, a blog that seeks to “expose the myths and realities behind web content management systems and practices,” according to a company release.

In full, CMS Myth seeks to improve chances for building successful website projects by sharing opinions and commentary about CMS systems, various strategies and best (and hopefully worst) practices.

In other words, you get everything you prayed for when you unwrapped CMS400.net 7.0.

Javascript vs Flash: Zoho Gets Real

By Angela Natividad  ::  Filed Under » Tips & Tricks

CEO Sridhar Vembu of Zoho wrote an interesting article about why the Zoho suite is AJAX-rich as opposed to Flash-heavy. For those of you who still think AJAX killed the info-architect, it makes for nice reading.

Vembu prefaces the post by stating Flash is a great tool for other stuff (like ToonDoo, par exemple). But for the Zoho suite, the flexible nature of Javascript simply serves users better.

Utilizing a web content management platform that runs off of a flat file structure (e.g. doesn’t require a relational database back-end) is an alluring thought. Mostly to us cheap baskets who would rather not pay premium money to hosting providers for database usage.

It’s all about Gilbane this week, of course. The latest news from the Boston conference relates to Hot Banana’s Web CMS, which topped the poll for Overall Ease of Use in Gilbane’s “Survey on Web Content Management User Experience.”

Unless you’re part of some close-knit, super-active, totally top secret open source project, IT can be a lonely calling. But the thing is, it doesn’t have to be.

Now you can network with like-minded pros and ask burning questions you’d hate to ask your superior (“What is a ‘foo’?”). The best part is, you don’t even have to leave your cubby. Or even turn the light on.

We give you ITtoolbox, the largest professional networking site for the information technology community.

XML Grows Up? See How at XML '07 with JustSystems

By Angela Natividad  ::  Filed Under » Events

Japan’s JustSystems has announced plans to discuss the evolving role of XML at the XML ‘07 Conference and Exposition. And you might want to see it, because the company’s making some very tall statements about the development of our favorite little markup language (the eXtensible kind, of course).

To watch the fireworks and partake of the bubbly, pop in at the Marriott Copley in Boston from December 3-5 — just days after Gilbane Boston takes place.

Might as well make the most of the frigid East in dead of winter, yeah?
