In keeping up with the social networking craze of Web 2.0, Xythos Software has released two new enterprise software suites: Xythos Enterprise Document Management and Digital Locker 7.0. These software suites feature enhanced business process automation and interoperability features along with support for all your favorite Web two-point-oh social networking features like Wikis, content tagging and RSS feeds.

Chances are if you are a business traveler, you’ve endured your fair share of airport delays, bad airline food and less than stellar customer service. The culmination of these experiences has expanded, like anything these days, into mediums supported by Web 2.0, blogs, specifically.

According to Forrester Research, in the second quarter of 2007, 21 percent of business travelers who use the Internet read blogs - not just ones about business travel, but also those involving sports, business, finance and other topics.

Red Hat has announced the winners of the JBoss Innovation Awards 2008. The Awards, in their second year, highlight the individuals and companies which are judged to be the most innovative and effective in providing JBoss solutions.

JBoss, a division of Red Hat, provides open source middleware solutions for the enterprise, offering a platform for building, integrating and presenting Web applications in a Service-Oriented Architecture.

The gang at Six Apart has just announced a new extension for their Movable Type 4.1 Commercial and Open Source publishing platforms. It’s called the the Action Streams Plugin and by tying together data from all manner of social networking providers it moves you one step closer to the open social web dream.

The share price of EMC fell sharply on Tuesday, dropping 7% despite beating analyst predictions for Q4 earnings. The market was reacting to news that virtualization vendor VMware, which is 86% owned by EMC and has hitherto been a star performer, is enduring serious competitive pressures.

EMC’s fourth-quarter profits were up by one third over Q4 2006, and revenues jumped almost 20% over the same period to $3.83bn. This growth came largely from the software side of the business, which grew 20%, although the company also saw strong growth from its storage business. Meanwhile EMC’s professional services wing, a relatively minor division of the company, saw a stunning 27% increase in business.
EMC, which makes the Documentum Enterprise CMS, also released an initial financial forecast for 2008, showing an expected revenue growth of 13% to around $15bn.

Microsoft is always looking out for someone aren’t they? This time it’s small, local governments who are responsible for 80% of the transactions between government and its citizens (individuals and businesses). They now offer the Citizen Services Platform, a combination of technologies, which includes SharePoint, and solution offerings designed to put the “e” in local e-government.

Ademero has announced the release of Content Central version 4.1, an update that adds many productivity-boosting features to this browser-based document management software application.

WSO2, an Open Source SOA company, has launched a new product called Mashup Server 1.0. This new server combines the capabilities of developing “situational” mashups with the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform.
