hootsuite-logo.JPGOver time Hootsuite has added more and more social media apps and extensions. Within 2012 alone, they’ve extended functionality to support Diggs, Trendspottr, RSS feeds, MailChimp and LinkedIn Company Pages. Today, they've integrated Instagam, Slideshare, edocr and Zuum into the social media management dashboard.

One Dashboard to Rule Them All?

These new apps move the company another step closer to achieving its long term goal of offering one secure dashboard for users to streamline online communication, content and multimedia from multiple social media networks, which you have to admit is a lofty goal considering the pace at which social media moves.

By adding these new applications, users can now extend their ability to monitor and engage with their audiences as they expand across more social networks.  New apps allow users to access features easily:

  • Instagram -- Users can view and search Instagram photos in a HootSuite stream, filter the stream to view key feeds (Home, Popular, My Photos, My Likes), view and add comments, like photos, share photos to social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and more.

  • SlideShare -- Users can view and search for SlideShare content, upload content, share content to social networks, view basic content information and more.

  • edocr -- Users can search for documents by keyword or user, upload documents to edocr accounts, view and comment on documents, share documents to social networks and more.
  • Zuum -- Users can view a feed of content proven to be highly engaging in social media, specifically on Facebook. Zuum’s engagement algorithm, combined with targeted industry data, provides marketers an accurate view into what types of content drive the highest engagement among fans.

Social Media Management For the People, By the People

Thanks to Hootsuite’s user-driven approach, users have guided most of the products added. Through comments submitted to its Feedback Forum which are consistently reviewed and prioritized, Instagram and SlideShare, among others, were among the top requested app integrations.

The HootSuite App Directory features tools created by third-party developers to extend the capabilities of the dashboard. To simplify the process, HootSuite allows developers to quickly create new apps using the available toolkit. Created apps integrate directly into HootSuite streams allowing a custom user experience within the social media dashboard.
