This week, LinkedIn announced new features, a partnership and a milestone, while several social analytics tools launched. This weekend, we're getting ready to celebrate World Social Media Day. What's not to love?

LinkedIn Is Watching

LinkedIn announced it was adding two enhancements to its homepage. Starting this week, the social networking platform will show users who has viewed their overall profiles as well as their updates on the site. Additionally, it will also show you what you’ve been visiting. These two new features are designed to keep members engaged with the news feed, as well as to remind them to update their profiles to entice others to take a look. 

While you can argue that these elements are a little big brother-ish, they might be most appropriate for a platform like LinkedIn, which is actually about making professional connections. Knowing who looked at your profile and your updates may help you understand who's interested and who isn't. 

That wasn't the only thing LinkedIn was working on this week. They also announced a partnership with IDG Communications to create a series of new tech-related discussion groups. The groups would live on LinkedIn but would be hosted by IDG and will offer marketers opportunities to sponsor specific groups exclusively for a year. Sponsors will receive the use of ad placements, sponsored content and information on the expected number of group members. 

And if this all wasn't enough, yesterday they reported that more than 3 million companies have created Company Pages to connect with 225+ million professionals on LinkedIn. 

It's All About the Social Analytics

But it wasn't all LinkedIn all the time this week. No, for others the focus was on releasing solutions to better tap into social analytics. 

SocialFlow announced that it was selected to partner with the Twitter Ads API. The integration into its social media management platform will allow advertisers to get the maximum value from paid content on Twitter. As a result, SocialFlow's technology will be able to identify and deliver content to the customers who will drive the most engagement for advertisers. 

On Monday, Topsy released major updates to its geo-inference model designed to give brands the ability to identify and examine location-specific trends in real-time. Topsy can now identify the origin of over 95 percent of tweets at the country level, 50 percent of tweets at the state level, 30 percent of tweets at the county level, and over 25 percent of tweets at the city level. 

Simply Measured added Instagram video to their comprehensive suite of social media analytics. Instagram Analytics are available to current customers, as well as to all user via a free report and is designed to help identify how your Instagram videos are being received, how they compare to your photos, and how your audience is engaging with them.
