SpringCM Upgrades Doc Approval
SpringCM this week announced the availability of its latest release, with improved document approval workflow and easier file sharing.
The new functionality that comes with this release provides functions for creating easier approval workflows, repeat notifications that remind approvers to complete their assigned tasks and email notifications with approval history and instructions to give approvers the information they need to make decisions.
SpringCM estimates that approval workflows can typically reduce the amount of time spent approving documents by up to 60%, or, according to some estimates, one day per week, by eliminating manual routing and tracking progress.
Sending content as email attachments in native format and PDF, in addition to links, makes it simpler to share content with colleagues outside of an organization or project team, while having a history of sharing to maintain governance.
This matches business file sharing capabilities available in the recently announced SpringCM Mobile. There’s a whole lot more to the SpringCM April release.
OpenText eDocs, BigHand
There's a new integration with OpenText Document Management eDOCS Edition (eDOCS DM), this time from voice productivity software vendor BigHand.
The new integration module is designed to help the the document production process for mutual customers. The new module allows integration between BigHand4 and eDOCS DM5 and follows BigHand being approved as an OpenText Technical ISV Partner in January.
According to BigHand, eDOCS DM5 and BigHand are widely used across the legal industry and are complementary. While BigHand increases efficiency at the initial document creation stage via voice, eDOCS offers market leading document and content management.
…They have been very efficient in their approach to integrating with both eDOCS DM 5.2 and 5.3 within a short space of time, and we are already working with them to provide support for future DM releases on the roadmap. Given the number of legal clients already using eDOCS and BigHand, added to the number of new clients increasingly adopting both products, we expect their integration module to be very well received in the market," Erik Schmidt, Manager of Product Marketing eDOCS at OpenText, said.
At the rate OpenText has been moving eDOCs, we are likely to see more of this in the coming months.
Amazon Releases Send to Kindle for Mac
You may remember a few months ago that Amazon released this for Windows. It seems the response has been so great that it has been forced to do the same for Mac.
When you download and install, Send to Kindle will appear on your Dock. Send to Kindle will also appear when you control-click on a file from Finder or in the print dialog of any Mac application.
You can download archived personal documents from your Kindle Library on Kindle Keyboard, Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle for Android, Kindle for iPad, Kindle for iPhone and Kindle for iPod Touch. Whispersync of notes, highlights and bookmarks, along with last page read, is available on your archived personal documents that have been converted into Kindle format. In brief, Kindle for Mac enables users to:
- Send personal documents to your Kindle from your Mac
- Drag and drop one or more documents on to the Send to Kindle icon in your Dock or launch the application and drag and drop one or more documents on to it
- From any Mac application that can print, select the print menu and choose Send to Kindle
- From Finder, control-click on one or more documents and chooses Send to Kindle
- Choose to archive documents in your Kindle library, where you can re-download them
Not only does the document management system have a new look, but new Agility customers will be able to take advantage of the Microsoft Azure platform for website builds. Gone from Agility's Media and Documents tab is the Documents section, and in its place is a new Media section. A proper label in the enterprise 2.0 eras, right?
NovoDynamics Device-Agnostic OCR
Finally, also this week, OCR vendor NovoDynamics has released NovoImage+, a device-agnostic, automated image optimization solution for digitized documents.
Unlike traditional document image processing applications, which are typically bundled with and exclusive to specific devices, NovoImage+ is an affordable, post-scan solution that improves the image quality of digitized documents regardless of what device was used and where or when capture occurred.
Targeted at the distributed enterprise, NovoImage+ cleans up images and clarifies text, preparing all incoming content for more efficient and effective downstream document processing. As NovoImage+ optimizes the digitized document, file size is reduced, making file transmission faster and reducing the burden on networks and storage space.
