Open Text Connectivity Secure Server is a high-performance server for Windows which offers SFTP (Secure FTP) file transfer and secure terminal sessions, as well as FIPS 140-2 validated encryption for securing network traffic.
The Tolly Group, a provider of third-party validation services for vendors of IT products, components and services, released the results of a survey commissioned by Open Text to compare their Connectivity Secure Server product against two other secure shell server products.
The Test Bed and Tests Performed
Tolly personnel examined three products using a uniform test bed consisting of a single PC server (3-GHz Intel CPU w/2GB RAM, running Windows Server 2003 SP2) hosting the SFTP server applications being tested. This connected to 4 client PC’s all connected to a Fast Ethernet test network. Performance tests were performed for single-session SFTP file transfer, multiple-session SFTP file transfer., the effect of scaling on file transfer operations, server transaction time and server memory utilization.
Tolly Group finds Connectivity Secure Server offers best total cost of ownership (TCO) of the three products tested.
Key findings identified in the report regarding the Open Text Connectivity Server include:
- Delivers the highest performance and maximum scalability of the three secure shell server products tested
- Costs up to 12X less to support 1,000 concurrent SFTP connections than rival products tested
- Completes 1,000 SFTP file transfer sessions from four PC clients on a single server, while other servers tested failed to scale properly
- Imposes less overhead on host server CPU than other products tested
- Uses 9X less server CPU memory than other products tested to complete 36MB file transfer to client
