Here's a collection of must read articles for managers dealing with SharePoint/MOSS in the enterprise.
1. A Little Background on SharePoint
SharePoint 2007 Review - Six Pillars of MOSS: Microsoft's Office SharePoint Server 2007, or “MOSS” for short, is Microsoft's first integrated server platform that aims to provide web content management, enterprise content services, and enterprise search, as well as shared business processes and business intelligence dashboarding to the small/medium enterprise. Some seem quite natural extensions and others we feel are indicative of new pathways.

How To: Connecting SharePoint (MOSS) to a CMIS Repository: Microsoft has played a major role in the development of the Content Management Interoperability Specification (CMIS) that is currently in the hands of the OASIS working group. It's no wonder one feels swamped with information about SharePoint. It's just that the software is so complex and elaborate than it can get overwhelming. You can mold it any which way you like. While the general movement is towards simplicity and end user orientation, Sharepoint seems to be taking things in the opposite direction. I personally prefer tools like HyperOffice, which talk in terms of functionality understandable to end users, and which can immediately be understood in terms of everyday business and productivity needs - document management, calendars, task management, email, polls, forums etc - and you just need to be net savvy to use the features. Sharepoint however lies securely in the arena of experts.
To underline the importance of simplicity in business technology - if it werent important, we would never have had Windows and still be working on DOS, and on wordstar rather than MS Word.
Governance is also key to successful Sharepoint implementation in the enterprise (otherwise the enterprise ends up with spurious content/sites/etc). http://welchmanpierpoint.com/blog/sharepoint-and-web-governance-fit-pair
