Open Text recently received U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Records Management certification for a selection of its records management software offerings. Does this mean it’s six or seven-hundred times more expensive than similar solutions, works most of the time and there is at least one retired general on the board of directors at a generous salary?
Of course not. It means several of their ECM related products and services met the stringent Department of Defense standards for management of data. Standards increasingly adopted across government lines as the de facto aspiration for content management by private enterprise organizations.
The Open Text Content Lifecycle Management (CLM) Services for SharePoint was certified to meet the latest version of the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) Standard for Records Management certification (DoD 5015.2-STD V3 April 2007).
In addition, Open Text received certification for a solution in support of SAP(R) with its Open Text Extended ECM for SAP solutions. This certification extends to the Solaris UNIX-based operating system.
An Integrated Content Management Strategy
Open Text’s Enterprise Content Management suite aims at an integrated content management strategy, rather than piecemeal departmental solutions. The ECM suite focuses on records and content management throughout the data’s lifecyle with company compliance a key factor. The solution suite covers both electronic and physical content and is designed to integrate with a company's current archiving, metadata, search and storage management capabilities.
"Now more than ever, it is imperative that organizations have a secure and trusted repository that delivers integrated records management for all business content whether it resides in dedicated ECM repositories, in Microsoft SharePoint or SAP solution-based environments," said Kirk Roberts, EVP and President, Integrated ECM Group at Open Text.
- Open Text's Records Management solutions aim at assisting corporations to achieve compliance and thus lower risk by enabling organizations to control how content is retained and for how long.
- Open Text's Extended ECM for SAP solutions manages all forms of SAP content. Addressing security of content throughout the entire content lifecycle. Features automated capture, storage, organization and archiving of documents. Promises ease of retrieval by users to collaborate on managed content.
- Open Text CLM Services for SharePoint, offers content management across SharePoint sites. This solution offers integration of Microsoft SharePoint with compliance management from Open Text. Open Text asserts the latest version of CLM Services for SharePoint works with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
Open Text's records management solutions are also compliant with the United Kingdom's TNA regulations and Australia's VERS regulations.
