January kicks off officially for EMC (news, site) with the acquisition of Archer Technologies, further demonstrating the enterprise content management vendors support for integrated governance, risk and compliance software.
GRC Needs at the Top of the List
What's one of the most important things you look for in an enterprise content management solution these days? That's right. What they offer in terms of managing compliance and risk of company information.
This is not a new story. It's something we covered repeatedly in 2009 and will continue to do in 2010. What may be interesting to see though is how the Enterprise CMS vendors add these capabilities to their suites.
EMC has chosen the acquisition route picking up a company that is well versed in the ins and outs of GRC.
Adding Archer to the RSA Division
Archer Technologies will be added to EMC's RSA Security Division, adding policy management, risk and compliance software to the traditional security management software already there.
Archer has a number of out of the box solutions for Policy, Risk, Compliance, Enterprise, Incident, Vendor, Threat, Business Continuity and Audit Management all built on the SmartSuite Framework. They also have an online Community for collaboration and support and an Exchange.
Archer is pleased about the announcement with CEO Jon Darbyshire telling their customers that things will not change except, "you will also have the power of EMC behind you, including an unmatched technology infrastructure, a global team of sales and services personnel, and an expansive partner ecosystem."
The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of quarter one and is subject to some closing conditions. The acquisition price is unknown at the is time.
