eZ Does It
eZ Publish has been the beneficiary of a number of minor updates so far this year, but today's is the real deal, with a big redesign, upgrade and the addition of features for the enterprise CMS. Aimed at creators of mutlchannel websites, the company has also expanded the support it offers to enterprises and improved its reliability and features for users.
This eZ Publish update is for the enterprise version only and highlights include parallel publishing for multiple systems, a REST API to aid publishing to mobile sites and external clients, as well as an improved front end and functionality. Enterprise admins can benefit from service features such as automatic installation of eZ Network, 24/7 support and system health monitoring, pushing its offering to a level that enterprises expect from megavendors.
Improvements have also been made to the eZ Flow editing system, with easier-to-follow icon design, better use of screen space and an ever-present editing toolbar. A workflow feature has been added to eZ Publish, giving users notification as documents progress through the publishing process. Trendy features such as support for HTML 5 playback have also been added.
In the back end there is improved assistance for search engines to help created sites gain greater visibility in results. There is also a canonical link feature so that search engines will know which one of duplicate pages is the priority version that should be indexed.
Going to Market
eZ Market is a new offering that will let partners sell their own extensions to other enterprise subscribers. Currently there are three different extension types, offering access to cloud services, bridge extensions between two products and functionality extensions that add features or improve existing aspects of eZ Publish.
The new Market will help improve the ecosystem within and around eZ Publish and encourage other web content companies to create add-ons for their products. Early additions to the market include Varnish Cache for added security and CJW Newsletter for improved integration of web content in your periodical publications.
The good news doesn't end there, eZ also has a service pack release scheduled for May that will add improved analytics, upgrade and migration tools. These will help boost the enterprise's understanding of visitors, providing usage statistics and content organization support. The migration tool and guidelines will help users upgrade from previous 4.x to 4.5 sites, something that would have been handy today.
eZ Enterprise subcriptions are available in Gold, Silver, Platinum and custom versions for varying numbers of content channels, repositories and support options, with pricing available on request.
