For anyone that thinks current technologies are a bit one-sided in their cultural orientation -- that they are focused on English speaking, or at the outside, European-language speaking countries -- then the launch of ibml’s global language in-line document scanning will probably be a surprise.
Sure, DocNetics, which is ibml’s image analysis and interpretation platform, and into which the new multilingual solution will be integrated, can take in the usual culprits like French, Italian, Spanish or even Japanese, but ibml says the new solution can also scan documents in Middle Eastern and Asian languages including Arabic, Persian (Farsi, Dari), Pashto, Urdu, Hebrew, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean and Russian.
Three-language Document Ingestion
ibml is an Alabama-based company that provides intelligent scanning technology for the most document imaging applications, including mixed documents of different weights, sizes and compositions.
The launch of this solution while clearly focusing on markets outside the US, Europe and Australia, will also give companies based in these regions an edge by providing a solution that can ingest huge numbers of documents in numerous languages without manual intervention.
DocNetics work flow
In fact, the company says that properly configured, DocNetics will be able to scan batches of documents mixed between English, French and one other language of choice as part of a normal scanning process.
And to ensure that the new solution has necessary market penetration, it will be distributed by the NCR Corporation, the billion-dollar international specialist in interactive technologies.
Two Solutions In One
Like many solutions, this one is made up of a combination of two different solutions.
On one hand there is ibml’s DocNectics, which is being powered by Verus, and optical character recognition (OCR) from NovoDynamics, which provides software for enterprise content management systems requiring OCR functions.
Amongst the principal features of the new solution are:
- Advanced image analysis, which includes the ability to identify and evaluate documents at the point of capture and to place them in the appropriate workflow according to document type and language.
- Versatile Imaging that checks documents in multiple orientations in just one run.
- Delivery of document content to business application layer.
And all of this in your language of choice. Well worth a look.
