With an eye toward audit and accountability of content at the enterprise level, Egnyte announced its new Hybrid Cloud File Sharing for the Enterprise.
But Egnyte promises this is not your consumer-level file sharing solution, with a new HTML5 based UI and enterprise-class architecture providing scale of up to 1 billion files, 10,000 concurrent users and upload files up to 1 TB in size.
Mobile Access to Enterprise Content the Problem
We've heard it before, as recently as today with the release of two studies showing the impact cloud computing and BYOD on the enterprise. The fundamental problem is the same, as echoed by Rob Enderle, Principle Analyst for his namesake Enderle Group,
IT executives are deeply concerned about the increasing trend of employees bringing in their own devices and using unauthorized cloud services to access and store sensitive data. This creates a nasty situation where IT can't do their job of securing corporate information because users are bypassing them. What is needed is a product like Egnyte's Hybrid Cloud which provides a bridge offering covering the ease of use that users are seeking while addressing the security and management requirements a well-run company requires."
Beyond Accellion's Kitedrive, other enterprise-class solutions to enter the field include GroupLogic's ActiveEcho, and SurDoc stand-alone Apps, not to mention the platform players Microsoft, Citrix and even Apple's cloud based storage initiatives.
Simple, Scalable, Secure

The company promises a simple, scalable and secure, fee-based solution that offers interoperability with most mobile platforms including the big "A's" (Apple and Android) plus Windows Phone 7.5. The key point is to allow users the ability to easily store, share, access and backup files, while IT has the centralized administration and control to enforce business policies, Egnyte said.
The company also offers its NetApp partner program to qualified infrastructure and app providers. It includes access to NetApp solutions, SDK's (software development kits), technical support, training, and more. Customers benefit by having access to best-in-class partner solutions that are tested to work with NetApp storage.
