This week in GRC news, Trend Micro offers Android data protection, Proofpoint research indicates that e-Discovery is moving to the cloud — with a new release from Applied Discovery offering hosted e-Discovery that backs that research up — and Laserfiche releases v8.2 focusing on GRC.

Trend Micro Protects Android Platform

With mobile devices and their development looking like one of the big themes of this year already, mobile security specialist Trend Micro (news, site) has announced the first of many applications planned for the Android platform.

Trend Micro Mobile Security addresses the growing need for protection against cyber-attacks on Android-powered mobile devices. It protects digital files and secures banking transactions on Android devices by identifying and stopping cybercriminals and online threats before they can attack.

Currently, Trend Micro is the only company that uses cloud-based security intelligence to protect Android devices from the latest threats. Custom filtering lists enable users to screen or block unwanted calls or messages.

Its probably no coincidence then that following the release of the first part of Trend Micro's security applications for Android that the chairman of Trend Micro Steve Chang claimed in an interview with Bloomberg new agecy that Android is less secure than iPhone.

Android is open-source, which means the hacker can also understand the underlying architecture and source code,” Steve Chang, chairman of Trend Micro, the world’s largest provider of security software for corporate servers …We have to give credit to Apple, because they are very careful about it. It’s impossible for certain types of viruses to operate on the iPhone, he said.

He also said he belived Android users will start to buy more security software. It's a given that he's expecting them to buy Trend Micro Mobile Security.

This year will also see accelerated adoption of cloud-based e-Discovery solutions focusing on reduced costs and simpler technology.
