What’s new on the iTunes web site may be of interest to IBM Big Data users, especially those with the iPad “second screen” now gaining in popularity among business users. A new app optimized for the iPad, dubbed "Cognos Mobile" from the IBM Business Analytics division is available for free download. The group said its new app makes it easier to explore data on the go with location-aware analytics.

Rich, Visual Experience, On- or Offline

According to the IBM team, Cognos Mobile allows users to “Access and interact with all of the rich reports and dashboards you need to make the smartest business decisions, all on your Apple iPad.” The app is available for download on iTunes, works either on- or offline and will sync the IBM Cognos content, either through iTunes, from email attachments or from the Cognos server.

The 40.6 MB multi-language app supports a plethora of regions, running in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, and while the number of reviewers is still small, it has a rather high rating from users, with an average of 4+ stars out of 5.

But this isn’t the first time Cognos has gone mobile. We reported back in October 2010 on IBM’s support for Cognos mobile on smart phones with rich client provisions for Symbian and BlackBerry.

IBM said the new app empowers IT to leverage existing Business Intelligence (BI) content and one administrative environment. Built on a flexible and proven platform, IBM Cognos Mobile ensures mobile decisionmaking is simple, reliable and secure.
