Jaspersoft announced that its business intelligence (BI) software will be integrated with Red Hat's OpenShift Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).
In the announcement, Jaspersoft explained that companies are turning to PaaS because it provides benefits such as improved cost, deployment speed, scalability and ease of implementation and maintenance. With the integration of Jaspersoft BI, Red Hat OpenShift can help users develop and deploy applications in the cloud and also extract insights from a variety of data sources.
Jaspersoft Goes Big in BI
In December 2011, Jaspersoft released version 4.5 of their platform, which provides a drag-and-drop interface that allows users to connect easily to popular big data solutions, such as Hadoop. In October, the company announced that it was combining Red Hat's data virtualization technology with its own analysis and dashboarding services.
Maturing BI Market
Last spring, we looked at the growing importance of business analytics in a two part series: The Ever-Expanding Importance of Analytics: True Intelligence for Business and BI & Analysis: Better Results with Collaboration, Reliable Data. We also noted that Gartner estimated that the global BI market continued to grow at rates considerably higher than other areas of IT in 2010, but many companies and users haven't been satisfied with the performance of the products they are using.
At the end of last year, Gartner predicted that the volume of information would continue to grow, but that businesses would also continue to struggle with it, saying:
By 2015, more than 85% of Fortune 500 companies will have failed to effectively exploit Bit Data to achieve competitive advantage. Most organizations are ill-prepared to address both the technical and management challenges posed by big data; as a direct result, few will be able to effectively exploit this trend for competitive advantage."
At the Gartner Business Intelligence Summit London 2012 next month, Jaspersoft will be among the other attendees covering the hottest topics in business intelligence, analytics, data warehousing and information management.
