With a promise of radical gains in migration speeds, Metalogix Software announced its Migration Manager for SharePoint v.5.0 with full support for Nintex Workflow. Its approach reduces site migration and upgrades from days to just minutes by leveraging sophisticated multithreading techniques, that claim up to 1000% increase in SharePoint migration and upgrade speed.
Steven Murphy, CEO of Metalogix, said,
With the release of Migration Manager for SharePoint 5.0, we have broken through many industry barriers and produced the highest-performing, cost-effective solution that allows organizations to easily and quickly realize the tremendous value of SharePoint 2010."
Migration Speed Boost via Multithreading
To achieve improvements in site migration and upgrades, Migration Manager for SharePoint is using sophisticated multithreading techniques that can split migration tasks over multiple operations while running them simultaneously. This approach allows record migration speeds and performance that, when combined with Binary Large Objects (BLOB) offloading, can achieve "high-fidelity" migration speeds of more than 125GB per hour.
The speed boost offers the benefits of non-disruptive upgrades and migrations that can be performed in minutes versus days. Metalogix reported that customer beta testing revealed more than 1,000% performance improvements from the new multithreading techniques. Also adding to performance, the solution offers improved incremental copy intelligence to skip seamlessly over settings and content that does not need to be migrated. This is especially useful for SharePoint environments with multiple layers of sub-sites.
Hybrid Cloud SharePoint Scenarios
The company said its Migration Manager can connect to SharePoint servers using native web services and the SharePoint 2010 client object model allows customers to copy data back and forth between the cloud and on-premises, making the solution ideal for creating or maintaining hybrid cloud SharePoint scenarios. Operations can be scheduled and run at any time.
Megalogix said this is the only solution that has been approved by Microsoft for installation in Office 365 dedicated or the Business Productivity Online Suite after successfully completing the Microsoft SharePoint Online Code Analysis Framework.
The Time to Upgrade Is Now...
For organizations using SharePoint 2003, Migration Manager for SharePoint eliminates the need for a "double hop" from 2003 to 2007 to 2010 -- instead migrating directly from SharePoint 2003 to 2010 in one step.
With the release of Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2010 and the expected announcement of the newest SharePoint version next year, the company said "...it is the optimum time for organizations to upgrade from SharePoint 2003 or 2007 to SharePoint 2010." Additionally, Migration Manager for SharePoint allows for a migration to be quickly enhanced with newer, improved SharePoint 2010 templates, rather than retaining the original site template designs.
