Oracle has released its Business Intelligence Foundation Suite 11g, and among the dozens of changes is a Microsoft Office update that adopts the Oracle Smart View for Office as the single Microsoft Office add in for Oracle BI, Essbase and Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management apps.

The company has also introduced updates to its Endeca Information Discovery tool for finding useful insights wherever they may lie across the enterprise.

Oracle Smart View for Office Update

A core component of Oracle Exalytics in memory analytics, the Business Intelligence Foundation Suite 11g release is a big update on the system. It features over 200 changes addressing application visualizations and the integration of Oracle Smart View for Office as the single Microsoft Office add in for the above listed analytics offerings.

Included in the Smart View for Office update is the ability to export full Oracle Business Intelligence dashboards in native Microsoft Excel. New analyses can be created right from inside Microsoft Excel from data, calculations, reports and visualizations managed by the Oracle BI Foundation Suite.

There's also added support for accessing data sources on Hadoop through the Hive Open Database Connectivity interface.

Business Analytics Using Structured + Unstructured Data

The latest Endeca Information Discovery update is meant for the business user, and Oracle is touting the release's streamlined design as one that those less technical users will respond to.

Version 3.0 of the system allows for uploading of personal data files into Endeca Server and building discovery apps without IT help, for example. Additionally, it has a native JSON reader for helping mine unstructured social media data through Web based OAuth APIs. It's available in 10 localizations, and the Oracle Endeca Information Server now supports text data in 22 languages.
