Beijing, China-based SharePointBoost announced a new web part Permission Reporting Tool to validate individual and group permission status. The company targets improved functionality for SharePoint with a host of web parts that streamline web administrators tasks. For example, last year at this time, SPBoost launched its Outlook workflow solution to customize the out-of-the box SharePoint solution with e-mail drag and drop support from within Outlook.

The company said its research showed a need for effective user/group permission "...without spending too much time scanning through all the different sites and lists. Permission Report solves the problem exactly, providing a way to check any user or group’s permissions in a few seconds and displaying it all on one well laid-out page."

Single Click Functionality

Like the other Web Parts offered by SharePointBoost, the code is based on simplicity of use and streamlined results. An admin can check permission status by inserting the user or group’s name and click “Run” to generate a report that appears on the same page. Admins can also use the site/list tree to scroll through all the lists and sites of the farm and find the information they need.

There is also a feedback function in Permission Report that allows users to comment and make suggestions about the web part. This is a smart way for the company to give users a voice in next-generation product development. To that end, they include a section for users to make requests for other SharePoint-related tools, or even point out problems that web administrators encountered using the native SharePoint system.

Web Part Download

The Permission Report component is the company's newest Web Part, designed for SharePoint customization. The SPBoost downloadable components add functionality to SharePoint 2007 and 2010 environments on a portal-by-portal basis. Best of all, the company offers any one of their Web Parts on a 30-day free-trial basis. Other Web Part solutions offered include Column/View Permission, Alert Reminder Boost, Batch Check-in and Password Change & Expiration. The company also offers an Ad Management Pack with five Ad tools.

In other news, on April 5, the company announced it was a recipient of the Andy Dale Award as Best Sharepoint Web Part Provider.
