Enterprise CMS purveyor SpringCM has announced the unveiling of corporate headquarters in the middle of San Mateo, CA.

There isn’t much happening in San Mateo. Thankfully, it sits at the heart of places where things are happening. The location enables SpringCM to beef up its employee base with the minds — and investment coffers — of San Francisco, San Jose and the greater Silicon Valley.

The old knock on open source software has always been the lack of a vendor to help customers get the product installed and up-and-running. Many IT managers have experienced this frustration first hand when they have downloaded and uncompressed an open source product but then had no idea how to proceed.

If only there were people or companies who could help with installation, configuration, and training?

We’ve all worked for one of these gray, stultifying corporate monstrosities. You know the ones with caffeine-comatose zombies in suits roaming the corridors, and a place in the lobby where you check in your soul on the way in, and collect it again at 5pm.

Yes – they pay well. And yet a great many of us look with just a little bit of envy at smaller startups in interesting and innovative fields - like open source - and kinda wish that we could be in some way involved.
