Oh La La, Drupal 5 One Step Closer
Drupal, one of the most popular open source Web CMS's around, has announced the immediate availability of the latest Drupal 5 beta.
All you Drupal fans can rejoice because the final release of version 5 is one step closer. The Beta 2 announcement has the full details, but in short, this is mostly a bug fix release (a ton of bug fixes) geared at achieving stability and fighting down the list of critical issues. The update is a must for all Drupal 5 beta testers.
If you are unfamiliar with the improvements in version 4 over version 5 here is a partial list:
- a web-based install system
- improved administration tools
- inclusion of the jQuery JavaScript library
- node access system improvements (ACL)
- many improvements to the Form API
- a shiny new default theme
According to the Drupal team, the final 5.0 version will hit the pavement after a) there are no more critical bugs and b) they've had at least one release without adding any more to the list. Testers, translators, and enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to participate in the beta process.
So what are you doing still here? Go get downloading boys 'n girls….
