The Best Open Source CMS

Best Open Source CMS Packt, the publisher of many a useful CMS book, announces an official quest for “The Best Open Source CMS” and an according, annual set of prizes around the “Packt Open Source CMS” yearly winners.

Voted for by a panel of independent judges and visitors to Packt's website, the award is designed to recognize and reward outstanding achievement in a high quality and highly competitive marketplace.

According to Packt, there is currently an abundance of premium open source Content Management Systems available in the market. But with each offering making many of the same claims, decision makers often struggle to make a final selection.

Ultimately, the most popular question to ask and seemingly most difficult to answer is simply, which one is the best? “We have been asked this question countless times”, explains Damian Carvill, marketing manager at Packt. “This is actually where the idea for an award came from.”

With books covering technologies such as Drupal, Typo3, Plone, Joomla, Mambo, PHP-Nuke, etc. Packt has demonstrated a clear commitment to supporting and furthering open source projects.

“Packt subscribes to the belief that Open Source should be promoted, supported, and sustained whenever and however possible” says Carvill. “The launch of the Packt Open Source Content Management System Award is a further initiative designed to provide projects with substantial revenue.”

Eager participants may nominate their favorite Open Source CMS today. Nominations end on September 1st. Voting begins on September 12th. And winners will be announced on November 14th.
