It’s usually easy to figure out what company sets the industry standard by how prospective competitors sell themselves to the public. For instance, a new site to be launched this week called SportsFanLive.com is supposed to be the “Facebook of Sports Fans.”

It’s so much like Facebook that something just like it had to be created exclusively for sports fans; but it’s also incredibly different as to attract users away from Facebook. A precarious balance, to say the least.

So an integrated marketing platform provider went out and bought a web content management company. That was story several months ago for Alterian and Mediasurface. But now that it’s all said and done, what’s the plan going forward? Alterian lays out their new platform strategy.

Evolving from copiers to document management to CMS, Xerox announces the launch of DocuShare Express, a content management solution developed specifically for small to mid-sized businesses.

DocuShare Express includes many of the same features of Xerox’s original DocuShare ECM suite and enables businesses to store, access and share documents and content.

KickApps and Akamai are teaming up to take on video publishing. KickApps brings the ability to create and manage custom video players with excellent social features. Akamai comes in with the ability to easily automate digital distribution systems while providing enterprise-level video distribution. Xythos is delivering on its promise to put a little more “Web 2.0” into its solutions. Updates for Xythos On Demand, Xythos Enterprise Document Management and the Digital Locker Suite are designed to help organizations contribute and manage content, as well as customize service delivery for specific audiences.

Three releases so far this year and it’s not even Labor Day yet! Ademero Inc., a document management vendor, has released version 4.6 of Content Central — its browser-based document management software.

Both the Enterprise and Workgroup Editions of the product have been updated with a set of additional DMS features.

Microsoft Licensing is confusing at the best of times. If you’ve ever looked at their SharePoint 2007 licensing spreadsheet, then you’ll understand what a headache really is. Fear not though, because Bamboo Solution’s has come out with a tool that will help you figure out how much you will pay for SharePoint licensing before you have to talk to Microsoft themselves. And that may save you a bottle of aspirin.

OutWit Technologies released a new Firefox 3.0 extension designed to outwit the web and perform smart web harvesting and semantic search. Based on a recognition technology, this tool is deemed to be the “first step towards a full-blown semantic browser.”

Based on an open API, OutWit Hub allows users to harvest data elements, documents or media from virtually any public source of content.

Ever hear tell of Enterprise Feedback Management (EFM) software? It sounds complicated but useful doesn’t it? According to solution provider Inquisite it gives companies the ability to automate and optimize the collection and management of either customer or employee feedback across the organization.

Sounds like something you could definitely use with a CRM or ERM solution. But even more possible, how about using it for evaluating how useful your social networking solution is?

Just like that certain city that never sleeps, Bitrix hardly takes a break. Shortly after the recent release of a new version of its Site Manager, Bitrix is in the news again. This time, the CMS vendor announces the addition of Media Player to its WCM platform, which will enable customers to embed video and audio streams into their web sites.

Video has quickly become one of the fastest growing media formats on the Internet, and that seems like a logical thing to occur. It makes sense that a company would attempt to integrate an interactive video solution into WordPress and Kaltura is the first solution that we’ve seen to address this. It is a decent try, but it is far from perfect.
