The very last panel I attended at the Gilbane Conference in San Francisco was also one that I had the privilege of moderating. Our topic was the big hot topic of the conference: how to integrate social networking features into the enterprise and whether or not they can co-exist happily with a content management system. Specifically in our panel’s case, we talked about Facebook’s utility. The net takeaway from our panel was — it’s all about the platform; Facebook matters because of its ability to integrate outside applications.

Gilbane SF: XML Strategies for Content Management

After navigating the murky lands of translation and globalizing content, I attended a panel at Gilbane that was a detailed look at XML and its importance in content management. The overall message I left with at the end was that XML was “tremendous technology” and as one panelist put it, “the most important integration tool in software today”.

Forrester Report Recognizes Alfresco and Drupal

Mention web content management and open source in a single question today and you commonly get two words back: Drupal and Alfresco. These are the two most well-known open source content management solutions in the market today. It seems that Forrester has not been too busy dishing up Enterprise 2.0 predictions to recognize this.

eZ Publish Supports Solaris 10 and Oracle's DB

At the eZ Conference developer day this week, eZ Systems announced plans for the newest upcoming version of their web content management system eZ Publish 4.1. This latest version will have some new back-end support and enhanced user experience features.
In addition, a new version of eZ Components was announced this morning which includes three new components.
