Heading for Cloud Nine

Cloud9 IDE is a new product from Dutch-based Ajax.org offering web development types a cloud-based development open source platform for JavaScript that is HTML 5-compatible and also offers support for Python, Ruby and PHP.

The development environment should allow developers to more easily create, check and analyze, and debug Web and mobile applications, especially while collaborating with others. All of that can be done from within one location, so no hopping from app to window and back. The UI should also help those without deep coding skills to learn where to start.

Cloud9 IDE takes flight

Going for a Joy rIDE

Cloud9 IDE can be accessed through the browser of any computer or device, so users can be creating at their desktop, on a tablet in the park or a mobile on the go. Being cloud-based means that any new employees or project members can jump in without the need for new desktops and product licenses.

The IDE itself was written in JavaScript and HTML 5, is open source and can be modified, extended and updated. You can try out the latest code fork on GitHub and can sign up for the private beta here. The whole thing works on a NodeJS-based server and a hosted service that Ajax.org currently offers in beta.

Expect more news as the project emerges from beta and note that the company will be opening an app store so developers can obtain pre-built apps or components for their own needs.
