CMS Watch Offers Online CMS Training

Known as one of the more knowledgeable people on content management, he spends a great deal of his time traveling the globe teaching us about the trials and tribulations of content management and related technologies.

He's Tony Byrne of CMS Watch and he's decided to bring his extensive knowledge to the world of online education.

It's coming as a start in the form of a WCM course called the Fundamentals of Web Content Management Technology. This course is about understanding web content management and all that it comprises. It's based on the half-day tutorial he's given time and again exploring the concepts of Web Content Management technology.

The course is broken down into 5 modules:

CMSWire speaks to a specific audience of professionals. You can too. Advertise here.

  • Introduction to WCM
  • WCM Core Technology Services
  • Web Content Production Services
  • Web Content Delivery
  • WCM Vendor Landscape and Trends

What you won't find in the course is a review of specific vendor technologies. This course is about the basics of WCM — want a vendor review, purchase the CMS Watch WCM Report.

The course will run you US$ 395.00 and takes about 4.5 hours of your time.

This is just the first in a series of courses that will be offered throughout the rest of 2008 and into 2009 so keep an eye out for more. Some of the others planned come in one of two categories: Technology Fundamentals — Enterprise Portals, ECM, Social Software, etc… — or Business Essentials — Evaluating SharePoint Business Services, E-discovery Essentials and Essentials of WOM.

It's good to see some online resources on content management and associated technologies by people who really know their material. Too often we have to pay to go to expensive conferences funded by vendors and we don't necessarily get all the information we need to truly understand a technology or individual concept.

Time to put the actual vendor specific technology aside and make sure you understand the basics of WCM.

If you decide to take the WCM course come back and let us know what you thought of it. Or we might beat you to the punch.
