eZ Systems, a Norwegian Open Source Web CMS provider, joined forces with Apple to provide a “unique production and workflow solution for digital media.”
The new product is designed for a more efficient management of video every step of the way: from production in Final Cut to multi-channel delivery
.This is not the first time eZ Systems and Apple join forces. Back in January of this year, eZ Systems enabled their CMS product to run on the Mac OS X Server v10.5 Leopard
. This long-awaited event was also accompanied by the release of eZ Flow, an add-on module that, among other interesting things for publishers, supports content delivery to Apple iPhones.
Final Cut Made eZ
The new solution is built using Apple's Final Cut Studio
and Final Cut Server
, but also supports Podcast Producer. Final Cut Studio handles video editing and production, while Final Cut Server handles media asset management
and workflow automation.
It will also enable editors to re-use video assets on multiple pages and publish to multiple channels -- Internet or iPhone -- from a single interface.
Videos can be embedded into the existing content and integrated into the editorial schedule and pre-planned content flow. The smooth workflow and version control
of any asset by different teams gives full control over the whole process.
Broadcasters, publishers and any existing users of Final Cut can now publish their videos with eZ Flow
. eZ Flow is a free add-on to the eZ Publish CMS that was released along with eZ Publish version 4.0
in 2007. This module enables editors to build complex pages and manage the publication schedule of rich content.
The new solution addresses the following challenges faced by online media with video-centric strategies:
* deliver rich and fast-changing content,
* satisfy demanding users,
* facilitate large and distributed editorial teams.
Overall, the value proposition is there, we say. With video being one of the most popular digital assets on the Internet, this product is sure to get some attention from Mac users, who are no foreigners to the world of 30-second spots, newscasts and documentaries. The integration of this product with all things Final Cut is, by far, the best part of this solution.
