AcceloWebLimelight Networks (news, site) has recently announced its acquisition of AcceloWeb, a Tel Aviv-based startup that specializes in website acceleration. While Limelight already features web and application acceleration on its CDN, the addition of AcceloWeb's technology will help improve "time to action" on websites.

Improved Cloud Services Delivery

Limelight Networks chairman and CEO Jeff Lunsford notes the rapid growth of cloud-based applications and says AcceloWeb's technology will help boost the performance of Limelight's Portal and Commerce Accelerator services. This will lead to increased conversion rates, reduced abandonment and a higher return on marketing investment.

The web application acceleration market is large and growing rapidly as enterprise and consumer applications migrate into the cloud -- one of the three macro trends core to Limelight's strategy. The talented AcceloWeb team has built the most innovative solution in the sector and we are excited to join forces with them to define best-in-class for this market by rapidly deploying their software worldwide on our high performance compute, storage and delivery platform."

AcceloWeb says its technology improves the performance of websites and applications as presented within a browser by significantly reducing bottlenecks, but with minimal configuration. This will not require a change in the existing web development workflow, additional hardware or server-side plugins, nor additional browser plugins. AcceloWeb CEO Ofer Gadish says the company will benefit from global exposure offered by Limelight and its clients.

We're pleased to join Limelight and continue our work building Internet scale software that improves end-user experiences on the Internet. We are excited about the opportunity that Limelight's global resources and technology platform offers the AcceloWeb team."

A Growing Content Network

Limelight Networks announced the US$ 10 million acquisition of content management software provider Clickability last week, which the company says will complement the Limelight Video Platform. Limelight has not disclosed details about the AcceloWeb acquisition, although the company says the transaction involves a combination of cash and Limelight common stock. Limelight (NASDAQ listed as LLNW) has recently received a boost in share price target from Goldman Sachs based on a strong 1Q 2011 financial report.
