PacktPub 2008 Awards - Most Promising Open Source Web CMS

Every great web CMS contest showcases winners in much anticipated categories, frequently highlighting names everyone already knows. But what about the new guy on the block? PacktPub.com is proud to announce the 2008 Most Promising CMS winners.
Once again, this year’s competition in the category for most promising open source CMS was tough. The category was designed to give attention to the newer open source CMS options out there that are stepping up to show they mean business. Names like CMS Made Simple (also a Best PHP Based Open Source CMS winner), ImpressCMS and MiaCMS were in the finals.
2008 Most Promising Open Source CMS Winners
First Place: SilverStripe
SilverStripe, touting statements like simple, flexible, scalable, template freedom and cross platform secured this CMS first place this year; bringing home a prize of $2000. Also the winner of best open source project in the New Zealand open source awards, SilverStripe promises to be a fierce competitor in future CMS competitions around the world.

Second Place: CMS Made Simple
PacktPub’s judges were obviously impressed with CMS Made Simple. The easy group management and group permission settings helped secure this particular CMS not only second place in this category but also second place in the Best PHP Based Open Source CMS category as well.
Third Place: ImpressCMS and MiaCMS
Once again, with the competition so strong this year, PacktPub’s judges had to give an award to two separate CMS’s. Both ImpressCMS and MiaCMS were granted third place in this year’s competition.
Creating a website that is easy to build and maintain was never so easy. With great support and almost constant updating, these CMS options will both be ones to watch out for in the race for Overall Best CMS Winner.

Looks like every Mambo fork is a first order contestant in the CMS arena. Strangely enough, the base project continues to shy developers away.
