Styling It With eZ Publish 4.2 Extensions

eZ Systems’ (news, site) 2010 New Year's resolutions are all customer-serving: look-and-feel editing, XML export and collaboration in eZ Publish 4.2 open source web content management system.

eZ Style Editor

With the omnipresent Web CMS industry goal of making it umm.. eZ to manage a site's look and feel, the eZ Publish Style Editor extension is aimed at web designers and web masters, who are in charge of managing site’s design.

Using this extension, which can be configured for custom styles and various DOM structures, they can switch on a visual edit mode in eZ Flow or eZ Publish Website Interface and edit the CSS(s) and corresponding images.

This extension -- a JavaScript-based app tied with Yahoo! User Interface Library (YUI) and AJAXy framework ezjscore -- is supported as an add-on to eZ Publish Premium – the vendor’s support & maintenance package for the CMS.

eZ XML Export

This extension is designed to help eZ customers to manage XML exports of content for scenarios when a customer feeds content to third-party providers.

Content (classes and attributes) for export can be handpicked and packaged in XML with support for XML Schema (XSD) and XSLT post-processing, and delivered via FTP.

Only certain data types are available for XML export. Restrictions on some data types (e.g.: ISBN, URL or e-mail) are defined globally in the XML Schema.

This extension is also supported under the Premium umbrella.

eZ Teamroom

In the pre-release mode, this extension is eZ’s take at a collaboration solution based on eZ Publish CMS. Main features include teamwork and collaboration management, content and information sharing, collaboration workflow, event and team document management.

This extension is only available as a beta right now in the contribution area for eZ Publish extensions. The official release is planned together with eZ Publish 4.3.

Starting off twenty-ten with these extensions is only the beginning for eZ. Next up? Well, a CMIS connector was on the to-do list.
