So, when a company goes out to find a solution that best suits their requirements, there’s always the concern that there may be a better system out there, but they just didn’t get the chance to try it out.
With click2try -- a community site -- users can "test drive" some of the existing open source products on pre-configured virtual appliances. XOOPS is, supposedly, the latest addition to click2try's CMS catalog.
XOOPS 2.3.3 On Trial
Why "supposedly," you ask? click2try said it's added XOOPS to its online content management catalog, which already includes WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal and SilverStripe. However, a search for XOOPS returns zero results, even upon registration and sign-in (as if that should matter).
click2try was launched in February (hence, the possibly inevitable hiccups) and aims to give developers and businesses a place where they can find, try, evaluate and use open source software for free.
Pre-configured, fully functional applications are hosted on click2try's servers and can be accessed from a user's desktop. Some of click2try advantages include the ability for developers to benefit from an expanded user base, as more professionals experience their products, see the value and even contribute to the growing popularity of open source software.
And with 25,000 downloads of XOOPS 2.3.2b -- the precursor to v2.3.3 -- in just three short months, the XOOPS 2.3.3 final version is now fully available for trial on click2try with a number of improvements.
The Latest Improvements in XOOPS CMS
Following user feedback on the .2b version, v2.3.3 comes with a number of bug fixes, user experience improvements including:
- profile and pm modules improvements
- improvements in the installer
- improvements to the editor
- bug tracker
The improvements to XOOPS CMS come from a combination of efforts by its core team and the international community. Project members span around a dozen countries and have translated XOOPS into over 20 languages.
XOOPS offers more than 60 customizable themes out of the box, as well as user management functionality.
At the time of publishing we couldn't find XOOPS on click2try, but give it a try later on.
