Telerik Updates .NET Product Line, Connects Apps to Microsoft's Cloud
Everyone, it seems, is questioning the future of the Web Content Management market. But question they may, Web CMS vendors across the global are still working hard to advance their solutions, and Bulgaria based Telerik (news, site) is no exception.
They have recently announced their Q3 Release lineup and it's packed with new features that include support for SQL Azure, User Interface testing and ASP.NET MVC and much more.
Support for SQL Azure
Telerik has opened up the possibilities for creating applications that span the cloud and behind the firewall. Their object-relational mapper, OpenAccess ORM now supports SQL Azure, so that developers can connect to databases in the Azure cloud in the same manner as connecting to an on premise database.
In addition, it supports both Model first and Schema first mapping to SQL Azure databases. OpenAccess integrated with Visual Studio, and provides the ability to create database independent code.
Here's a look at how it works.

Silverlight Support
Silverlight Report Viewer
Telerik now offers a Silverlight Report viewer integrated with its Reporting Tool. The viewer enables you to add reports into Silverlight based RIAs. Because reports are rendered in XAML, you can also export them easily to the Microsoft’s XPS document format.
WebUI Test Studio
A report viewer isn't the only Silverlight supported tool with the latest release of Telerik. The WebUI Test Studio lets you perform functional testing for AJAX and Silverlight applications from within Visual Studio.
ASP.NET MVC Support
Licensed under the GPLv2 are the new Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC (note there is a commercial license available if you need support). The extensions are an alternative to using ASP.NET Web Forms. They are built using JQuery, support the MVC ViewEngine and work across all major browsers.
There are four extensions in this beta release that closely match those of the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX.
Developing Next Generation Websites
There is a lot of functionality in the latest editions of Telerik products, all of which will help develop web content management solutions that enable tight integration with the cloud and include enhanced user experiences.
All these enhancements, along with a new Marketplace and the opening of new US offices, help explain why Telerik made the list of Rising Stars for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 list for central Europe.

Nice writeup! Good to see Telerik taking advantage of some of the newer advances in cloud computing. Supporting the ability of apps to store data in cloud-DBs, like SQL Azure, is going to become a must as cloud computing becomes more mainstream and more app developers realize its potential
