Mochila Scores a Hat Trick
Mochila is starting 2009 with some announcements. They have added a new advisory board member, a new content partner to syndicate and a new funding source. All notable accomplishments, especially in today's volatile web publishing market.
First things first.
Advisory Board Additions
Mochila welcomes Jonathan Miller to their advisory board. A well known digital media veteran, Miller is the former AOL chairman and CEO and founding partner of Velocity Interactive Group, a global digital media and communications investment firm. He is poised to bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the established online media marketplace.
At AOL, he was responsible for restructuring the company, which included focusing AOL on online advertising and completing the acquisition in 2004 of Advertising.com. He is joining Mochila at an exciting time as they add more partners and secure additional funding sources.
New Content Providers
IDG and Mochila have partnered to deliver multimedia news and information for consumers and tech enthusiasts to media websites nationwide. Partnering to create a personal technology news section, Mochila and IDG are syndicating articles, video and photos to 44 sites starting this month. Participating sites include some of most visited newspaper sites in the country: the latimes.com, chicagotribune.com, and denverpost.com.
IDG certainly does not lack content, as editorial content is being pulled from IDG media brands including PC World, Macworld, Computerworld and GamePro, as well as nearly two dozen of its newspaper and TV station websites, including TBO.com, InRich.com, and JournalNow.com.
In addition to news sites, Topix and Imaginova's LiveScience will be integrating the IDG technology section into their sites.
Additional Funding and Investments
We saved the best for last. During this financially turbulent time, Mochila has done what most companies are literally dying to do — secure funding. Through the Greenspun Corporation, a privately-owned company that currently has significant media, real estate, travel and tourism, and gaming investments, Mochila has secured a Series C round of funding.
Having raised over US$ 30 million to date, Mochila has emerged as a major player in web publishing and as a result has forged partnerships with hundreds of the biggest and most powerful publishing companies in the world. Greenspun Corporation joins other Mochila investors Belo, Charles River Ventures, Mission Ventures and Jerry Colonna.
We are happy for Mochila's accomplishments. In this dismal marketplace Mochila is a bright light, shining through, reminding us that innovation breeds successful endeavors.
