Vancouver, British Columbia-basedÂ Hootsuite has named Penny Wilson as its first chief marketing officer.
Now she leads the marketing program for one of the world's most widely used social media management platforms. Hootsuite is used by more than 10 million people and brands, including 800-plus of the Fortune 1000 companies, according to company officials.
Wilson most recently worked five years at a company she founded, according to her LinkedIn profile. The company,Â Nognz Brain Fitness in West Vancouver, British Columbia, is a brain fitness company for onÂ employers, educators, senior living providers and consumers.
For the past six years, she has served as a board member for various tech companies, including Tagga Media, Grand NCE and AinslieWear Design.Â
From 2000 to 2009, Wilson was the CMO at Macromedia (2000 to 2006) and Juniper Networks (2007 to 2009).Â Macromedia was an Adobe competitor and a graphics, multimedia and web development software company that created Flash and Dreamweaver. Juniper Networks produces networking technology.Â
According to Hootsuite officials, Wilson focused on developing Juniper's first cross portfolio solutions, establishing customer value and ensuring a consistent global brand.Â
At Macromedia, she led the companyâ€™s worldwide marketing efforts up to and through Macromediaâ€™s acquisition by Adobe. She "helped establish Macromedia as the leader in creation and delivery of rich internet applications across all devices," according to a Hootsuite release.Â
Integrations and Growth
Wilson joins a company that hasn't sat idle this year. Earlier this year, it launchedÂ Hootsuite AdsÂ in an effort to simplify Facebook advertising. ItÂ delivered its integration with InstagramÂ in August andÂ launched a free social media education program in September.
Hootsuite has some 600 employees.Â The company was founded by Ryan Holmes six years ago with seven employees.
