After a year of fast track releases, New York City-based Nuxeo has unveiled the 2016 Long Term Support (LTS) release of its hyperscale digital asset management (DAM) platform.

The release incorporates all of the fast release updates from the past year, but also a couple of noteworthy additions designed to accelerate digital transformation by turning data into digital assets.

Nuxeo Rebuilt the UI

The rebuilt user interface (UI) is especially noteworthy. It's designed to make workers more productive by giving them access to configurable search-based navigation, a task-oriented UI and user-centric workflows.

Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca stressed the hyperscale capabilities of the platform, which he said enables enterprises to easier scale globally.

In addition, Nuxeo Platform LTS 2016 integrates with in-place IT systems and mobile devices, including enterprise fie sync and share platforms like Google Drive, Box and Dropbox,  and offers connectors to Salesforce, Adobe Creative Cloud. It also features improved bi-directional desktop sync of content, he said. 

The interface is built on WebComponent and advanced HTML5.

Nuxeo: From ECM to DAM

The UI is the most striking element of this release. It underscores Nuxeo’s DAM credentials and ongoing push from its origins as an open source enterprise content management (ECM) provider into the DAM space. 

Barroca told CMSWire that DAM is Nuxeo's focus because it's what the market needs. He said the Nuxeo platform provides an alternative to legacy ECM providers and DAM point-solutions. He continued:

“By offering a platform that allows organizations to deeply integrate their digital assets into their existing systems, and one that can hyperscale, Nuxeo Platform is disrupting the DAM market. In addition, the native integration with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or MarkLogic, has allowed Nuxeo to reach unmatched levels of performance. This combination offers to organizations a way to manage their digital asset at the enterprise level, across the organization, and to unlock the full value of their assets.”

During a CMSWire webinar Nuxeo sponsored earlier this month, Melinda Cormier, Nuxeo’s senior director of digital marketing and brand strategy, pointed out that organizations still find it difficult to integrate DAM into their business processes. She pointed to the problems created by a growing number of content types and delivery channels, creating problems for organizations looking to scale over time as needs change.

Other Features of Nuxeo LTS 2016

The new release also provides: 

  • Automatic image recognition with Nuxeo Vision
  • The ability to preview 3D assets
  • Automated PDF production as well as the ability to validate and embed them directly into workflows 
  • Collaboration outside the firewall with Instant Share

Discovering Value Trapped in Data

“Digital assets are now core to any successful digital transformation. Unfortunately, value is often locked in the data and organizations have trouble unlocking the data associated with the digital assets,” Barroca said.

“By providing a platform that can handle the complexity of the data models and their ongoing changes, Nuxeo enables organizations to create a future-proof ECM application — a content-oriented application that will be scalable in the future, thanks to the API-first architecture.”

Barroca said DAM is moving toward a data-first approach, evolving from a file-centric world to a data-centric world to enable analytics, machine learning, visualization, advanced rules and processes.

It also means enabling the organization to search, use and package assets in ways that were impossible before because of this lack of unified, query able data.

Nuxeo plans to introduce a number of new elements over the next year, including machine learning and advanced analytics applied to content and assets, computer vision, video (notably annotations) and more connectors to cloud services and apps.

From a business, prospective this means an expansion of its sales capabilities in Asia-Pacific and Northeastern Europe along with a major expansion of its customer-facing organization starting first in the US and then extending to Asia-Pacific and Northeastern Europe.
