Along with Windows 10, Microsoft officially released Office Mobile Apps for Windows 10 this week.

There were no surprises here — and that's a good thing.

Microsoft has been very clear about its plans for its office apps and the role they're due to play in what Microsoft boastfully proclaims as "the reinvention of productivity."

The Office Mobile apps — Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote — are built from the ground up for touchscreens. They come with familiar interfaces that will enable mobile workers to use them just as they would from desktop apps. They are also fully connected to OneDrive, which lets users access their stored documents whenever and where ever they need them.

They also have some new improvements, including Tell Me, a search tool that enables users to get insight on performing specific tasks.

This week’s Office Mobile apps release is the first of three key Office deliverables this year for the Windows platform. In September, Microsoft plans to release Office 2016 for Windows desktops. Later in the fall, it will release Office Mobile for Windows Phones.

Interested users can download the apps from the Windows Store.
