Description
linux.conf.au (lca) is a conference about Open Source Software, including Linux. It brings together the world's community of Linux and open source enthusiasts who make considerable contributions to open source software. It is not limited to just Linux users - the community is much larger than this
2012 will be a significant year for the LCA as it will be the first time the conference has been held in an Australian regional city. The 2012 Ballarat organising committee is excited to be hosting the open source community and would love for you to join us in January.
If you would like to attend linux.conf.au 2012, be it one of the talks during the main conference, a miniconf talk or any other event, you must register and pay to attend the conference. Security requires that delegates wear their conference badge at all times. Badge sharing or swapping is not appropriate or acceptable. This really does not support a conference that is built on Open Source principles and the hard work of volunteers.
linux.conf.au is about free and open source software, especially Linux. It is a technical conference which attracts some of the brightest minds in the world and it is run by the community, for the community. If you are new to free and open source software, attending linux.conf.au is a great way to get a head start. You'll be able to meet and talk with like-minded people and learn about the projects you can contribute to. There will be sessions for the more technical amongst us as well as sessions for the non-technical but end users in the community
For seasoned attendees, linux.conf.au is an opportunity to catch up with old friends, see what new friends are currently working on and see first-hand what the future of free and open source software will be.
The Registration counter will open on Sunday, 15th January in the afternoon (more about this soon). linux.conf.au will begin with one day of Miniconfs on Monday, 16th January. The Miniconfs are now announced!
The conference formally runs from Tuesday, 17th January to Friday, 20th January 2012. Each day will open with a keynote and will consist of multiple streams of presentations, tutorials, and birds of a feather sessions. There will plenty of choice throughout. The preliminary Schedule is now published, although is subject to change.
While delegates are attending linux.conf.au, their families will have the opportunity to join the Partners' Programme, a programme of activities for partners and their children. Ballarat and surrounding districts have a wide variety of popular tourist attractions and the partners problem aims to explore as many of these as possible throughout the week.
