IBM has been selected by Iron Mountain Incorporated to power its new Digital Record Center for Images, which provides organizations with hosted storage and quick access to scanned images, PDFs and other digital files.

Iron Mountain and ediscovery firm Stratify have enjoyed close links for some time. Now Iron Mountain's splashed the cash to acquire its former partner in a blockbuster US$ 158 million deal.

This marks the latest stage in Iron Mountain's comprehensive business evolution. Once regarded as little more than a records storage company, it's been spending big on acquisitions poised to help it become the industry-beating digital records management service provider.

Just to let us know they're serious about their new direction, they've gone and snapped up leading hospital records management firm RMS Services USA Ltd., for an undisclosed amount.

Until recently we've all thought of Iron Mountain as little more than a backup tape shipping and storage business. While offsite maintenance of tapes is a necessary pain of IT existence (and has been a successful endeavor), recent acquisitions and partnerships have demonstrated that Iron Mountain is headed into quite a new arena. The high dollar records management space would appear to be the company's new calling and they've just put some serious resources behind it.


Iron Mountain Record ManagementIron Mountain and Stratify have recently announced that they will be working together to provide Iron Mountain customers with Stratify's advanced electronic discovery capabilities.

Through their new alliance, users will be able to "leverage the Stratify Legal Discovery service using data that is stored and protected by Iron Mountain to efficiently analyze and review data during internal investigations as well as for litigation or regulatory discovery requests."
