Vorsite's New Search Connector ActiveResults

Vorsite continues its pursuit of connector technologies for Microsoft SharePoint and enterprise content management systems with the announcement of a new product in its suite of enterprise search and ECM connector solutions.

With the new solution, ActiveResults, it should be easier to search, find and manage information scattered across multiple locations — e-mail servers, ECM systems, file servers, intranets, desktops, etc. — as in a typical enterprise content management scenario.

This SharePoint as a service thing has been in the works. Previously we had a chance to talk with Tom Rizzo, Redmond’s Director of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, just after the official announcement at the SharePoint Conference 2008 about the why fores and the hows.

Now we’ve got the scoop on pricing, including how Microsoft’s partners are getting compensated for potentially loosing integration business. The short story is that Redmond is walking through the doors of change, but doing its best to keep the channel in the loop and incented to generate business.

Ever since its release, there have been questions about SharePoint’s (MOSS’) fitness as a web content management solution (see our article series on MOSS WCM).

While the jury may still be out on this question, it does not appear to be deliberating on the question of SharePoint’s social features. Microsoft is continuing to improve its community features, they have also been working closely with a partner, Telligent, who can provide this functionality as a direct SharePoint integration.

Funny thing is, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen these two products doing the tango. SharePoint Solutions has a service offering that does the exact same thing.
