Nuxeo Reports Growth, Plans Big for Open Source ECM in 2010

Nuxeo (news, site) has rounded up 2009 with reports of triple-digit growth in revenue and subscriber base numbers, as well as a look at how the open source Enterprise CMS vendor plans to tackle the overcrowded and mature ECM market.

xCMIS Fuels CMIS With Another Java Implementation

Following Apache Chemistry’s suit, another Java-based and open source implementation of the CMIS specification hit the streets. Meet xCMIS -- a server side implementation of CMIS developed by eXo (news, site).

Currently in xCMIS 1.0 beta1, xCMIS supports eXo's Java Content Repository (JCR), third-party CMIS clients, new eXo CMIS client based on Google Web Toolkit (GWT), and an integration with the GateIn portal.

The implementation is done according to Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) version 1.0 draft 06 for REST AtomPub and Web Services (SOAP/WSDL) protocol bindings.

So far, the implementation (packaged as J2EE .war, or as an Apache Tomcat bundle) includes the following:

  • CMIS server
  • InMemory for testing purpose
  • Client for accessing CMIS-compliant repositories

eXo reports that it has tested their implementation with other CMIS clients, such as IBM CMIS Firefox Connector and CMIS Spaces Flex+AIR client.

Apache Chemistry Gains New Contributors via OpenCMIS

Just recently, we reported on Nuxeo’s (news, site) steady progress with Apache Chemistry, a Java implementation of the CMIS spec.

The newest development on this front is OpenCMIS (a project led by Alfresco, SAP and Open Text) that is adding their collection of libraries, frameworks and tools around CMIS to Apache Chemistry.

No, it is *not* an attack against Chemistry, but more of a friendly merger.

Nuxeo Updates Its Apache Chemistry CMIS Implementation

Apache Chemistry (we introduced you to some time ago) is progressing under the watchful eye of Enterprise CMS vendor Nuxeo (news, site) and other contributors. The latest news -- updated Nuxeo Chemistry bindings to allow for better support for CMIS.

#jboye09 8 Key Trends in Web Content Management Architecture and Standards

#jboye09 Top 8 Trends in Web Content Management Architecture and Standards

On the last day of the J. Boye 2009 Conference, Aarhus heard its mayor’s plea and slightly warmed/dried up. The event folk exclaimed, “It’s almost summer!”

The rather standard for this time of the year weather was followed by the web content management standards talk. David Nüscheler, the CTO of Day Software, presented his take on the top WCM trends for 2010 from the architecture and standards standpoint.

Open Source Nuxeo EP and DM 5.3 Support OpenSocial

Open Source Nuxeo DM 5.3 Supports OpenSocialNuxeo (news, site) included several new features in the latest release of Nuxeo Document Management. Nuxeo DM 5.3 highlights include support for the OpenSocial API, a new tagging service, SharePoint integration support and interoperability with CMIS as an add-on component.

On top of that, Nuxeo EP 5.3, the vendor's enterprise content management system core, reached the RC stage.

Document Management Vendor KnowledgeTree Embraces CMIS

Document Management Vendor KnowledgeTree Embraces CMIS

CMIS, in its current state, seems to be best suited for document management scenarios. Hence, it was only a matter of time before a DMS vendor like KnowledgeTree (news, site) jumped on the CMIS bandwagon (joining the many Web and Enterprise CMS players) and released its own implementation of the draft Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification.

Admittedly, quite a timely move, considering that the latest OASIS CMIS Technical Committee face-to-face meeting took place only two weeks ago, getting CMIS an inch closer to the actual standard level.

Nuxeo's Take on Apache CMIS Implementation aka Chemistry

Well, good news! Since we discussed Chemistry with David Nuescheler  -- Day Software's CTO and one of Chemistry committers -- the CMIS implementation project has been officially incubated at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF).

Now, let's do some Chemistry with another major contributor to the project -- open source enterprise CMS vendor, Nuxeo, and its head of R&D Florent Guillaume.

Apache CMIS Implementation: Is There Chemistry?

The CMIS specification is still in early stages, but the buzz around it is consistently loud. Most recently, the spec has piqued interest of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), as some saw a "reference implementation" ingredient missing from the CMIS recipe for success.

Meet Chemistry -- a recently-proposed Apache Incubator Project with a goal of creating a generic, open-source, Java-language implementation of CMIS.

CMSWire had an opportunity to talk to one of Chemistry committers -- Day Software's David Nuescheler -- to get more insight into the project.
