Also this week, we took a look at records management for SharePoint again.

This week, after announcing its release in March, SAP has put BusinessObjects 10 GRC on general release, Google gets some more security certification, BMC offers cloud Lifecycle Management to mitigate the risks associated with cloud computing outages, and Hostway offers email encryption.

After everything that has happened around the OpenOffice fork last year, the Document Foundation has announced the release of a version that is suitable for enterprises, Google Docs got a makeover, Kofax and Atalasoft have released an imaging SDK, Metalogix offers archiving for Exchange and Marex releases Filebound Express.

In this, the month of everything SharePoint at CMSWire, we’ve started looking at SharePoint in some detail and with some interesting results. Last week, Jed Cawthorne, a Senior Strategy Consultant for enterprise content management, looked at uses for SharePoint. Here we will look at some of the challenges with deployments in the enterprise.

We flagged earlier in the year that Symantec (news, site) would be releasing a new version of Enterprise Vault with social media archiving and more effective data tracking. Symantec has announced the release of Enterprise Vault 10, which comes with these new features and a lot more.

With all the problems associated with keeping track of information, particularly now with the multiplication of SharePoint deployments, archiving tools are always welcome -- particularly if they work. Metalogix (news, site) has done a good line on this over the years, and today has announced the release of Archive Manager 5.0 that focuses on Exchange, SharePoint and files.

While we have talked a lot over the past six months about Office 365, its potential and problems, one of the things that no one seems to able to answer is where and who is going to use it. Microsoft itself is hoping for interest from the SMB market, while vendors have been working to develop integrations for it. The release of Bloomberg’s (news, site) Office 365 Cloud Archiving this week is one such product.

There have been a number of new releases recently in the GRC space, with SAS upgrading its GRC suite, QUMAS offering document and records compliance in SharePoint, GRC monitoring for social media from SocialLogix, while Symantec adds to its SaaS offering. New research for Bloomberg also shows that enterprises are moving to hosted email for compliance reasons.

Finally, Office 365 has arrived in beta. Office 365 is Microsoft’s cloud-based online business application subscription service that comes in two packages: One for enterprises with 25 employees but can go as far as 50 users, the other for enterprise users that can be scaled to as many seats as necessary.

It the wake of yesterday’s AIIM State of the ECM Industry report, where we noted that many enterprises over the course of this year are looking to break the boundaries between content repositories, it is opportune that HP (news, site) should be launching a strategy to provide holistic information management by providing an overview of content across the enterprise.

There’s been a number of releases this week that help document management, including one from OpenText that helps document governance in SharePoint 2010, a connector from Box to your ECMs, KnowledgeLake has released document imaging for SharePoint, while ABBYY’s SDK integrates data capture with third-party applications.

The latest joint offering between OpenText (news, site) and Microsoft SharePoint 2010 goes a long way to straightening some of the wrinkles in the SharePoint canvas that have been niggling users since its launch last year, not least of which is SharePoint site and document management across the enterprise.

Information archiving does not consist only of storing data, but rather more powerful data management, which includes search, retrieval and analysis. MessageSolution's (news, site) latest SaaS release features advanced management functionality for Lotus Domino Application-based environments, as well as for other systems.

This week, document management has been dominated by email software and document capture. Gmail is being picked up by one of the US Government’s important agencies, Laserfiche and salesforce.com integrate financial software, Lexmark and Perceptive announce their first release since the May buy-out and Linux Box releases open source free email management.

It has been an interesting week in GRC. The Linux Box as released the community edition of its email archiving as a prequel to the enterprise edition release early next year, Invincea says there may be problems with the new Adobe Reader X , while data back-up is creating cloud migration issues.
