Discussion around the evolving role of enterprise CMS and the software that aims to do that are almost a weekly phenomenon. This week’s discussion comes in the shape of the Forrester Wave for ECM Suites for Q4, which highlights a number of issues that we already saw in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for enterprise CMS last week.

On the stock market, everything is about perception. Share prices go up and down depending on how a company is viewed on trading floors all over the world, sometime even regardless of how the company’s products are performing. This probably explains why HP has decided to keep its Personal Systems Group (PSG) rather than spin it off.

In the GRC space this week, there’s a lot of records management updates. Laserfiche has been showing off its iPhone records management app at ARMA, DocFinity has released a records management module, StoredIQ has also been working in records management, RSA and McAfee have formed a new partnership and Autonomy has released new policy management software.

With Autonomy now officially owned by HP, it is worth keeping an eye on to see where it goes and what it’s doing. While it’s too early to make anything of any changes, the release this week of Policy Authority would suggest that, at least for Autonomy, it's business as usual.

The only thing that is clear about the HP acquisition of Autonomy deal at the moment is that it was concluded, after the U$ 10.24 billion deal was finally given the green light by 87% of Autonomy’s shareholders.

It’s a busy week everywhere, with Oracle and SharePoint’s annual conference. And there’s been a lot of document management too. Xerox has upgraded DocuShare, Oracle’s E-Business Suite has new invoice security, Autonomy has upgraded WorkSite, there’s mobile document management for iPad from NewSoft, while Colligo and NewsGator have teamed up for SharePoint functionality.

This week, Autonomy -- under the spectre of what might happen to its planned acquisition by HP -- announces several new products, and spats about whether Oracle was really its first choice for a partner, plus we have surveys and reports. Boy, do we have surveys and reports.

August was a bad month for innovation.

On the heels of a Symantec report on e-Discovery and information retention, market trends in the e-Discovery industry are improving after dropping sharply (along with everything else) in 2009, according to a report from IBISWorld.

There has been speculation over the past five days as to the significance of HP’s announcement that it intends to buy UK-based Autonomy for US$ 10.7 billion. Questions over the wisdom of the deal are rife, but ultimately, the answer to the general question as to what it is all about was provided by HP CEO Léo Apotheker in the initial announcement.

The biggest news of the week came when HP announced its intentions to buy Information Management and Customer Experience giant Autonomy. Information is in, and hardware (unless you are Apple or Google) is out.

Autonomy, who only recently added Iron Mountain to its fold, is the last of the big, independent Enterprise CMS vendors. The company recorded US$ 870 mil in 2010 revenues and has made strong progress selling cloud-based services.

As digital advertising grows to an estimated US$ 72 billion market in 2011 measuring, managing and optimizing this spend has become a priority for Adobe. A reorganization announced today puts Brad Rencher, currently in charge of Adobe's Omniture business unit, out front in this domain and overseeing the company's customer experience management (CXM) solutions, largely got via the Day Software acquisition.

If anything is certain about the news that Hewlett-Packard (news, site) is to stop making WebOS devices, and will probably spin off its PC business, it’s that Michael Dell is a funny man. On news of the decision by HP, which followed its announcement that it intends to buy Autonomy, he went into Tweet mode.

HP's third quarter earnings release confirms the offer to acquire information management software vendor Autonomy. As CMSWire readers know, Autonomy is also the proud owner of the assets once known as Interwoven. This makes for yet another exciting purchase in our sector, most recently following Oracle's acquisition of Fatwire Software.
