 With its premium Z10 and Q10 models now out on the shelves, BlackBerry has to go the Nokia route and widen its portfolio to broaden appeal and affordability around the world. The company took a first step down that road today at its BlackBerry Live event. 

The Q10 has got BlackBerry moving with a U.K event over the weekend that saw thousands of devices per hour being sold to well-heeled executives and exporters at the luxury Selfridges stores. 

Europeans and Canadians prepare to welcome the first "proper" BlackBerry 10 device, while America gets ready to buy the new Galaxy S4 by the million, not letting some less-than-stellar review comments get in the way. 

  While BlackBerry might just be getting started on its recovery in the U.S., the company has already made the turnaround in other territories, allowing it to record a profit and hit the million mark with the Z10. 

  Just a few months after launch, and as it goes on-sale in the U.S., BlackBerry has announced that its app store is into six-figures, with the promise of more big name apps to come. 

 if you want to upgrade your BB device or get back in the BlackBerry fold, the new Z10 smartphone model will be available for $199 on a two year contract. Americans can pre-order it from tomorrow at AT&T.

While the big show in New York is just moments away, the company is staging events around the world to help get the message out about the new BlackBerry 10 OS and phones.

  In advance of February's launch of the new BlackBerry 10 line-up and ecosystem, RIM has released its new Enterprise Service platform to the world, offering support for iOS and Android users too. 

 The knives have been well and truly out for Apple ahead of today's earnings call, with analysts predicting relatively weak numbers. Yet, Verizon, AT&T and others are reporting huge iPhone sales in their latest reports as earnings season gets into top gear, but that might not be enough to help push Apple's usually stellar numbers.

 In a mixed day of news for RIM, the company lost customers, made a small profit and beat street estimates, but proved that pretty much no mobile company can keep a secret as the name and image of its upcoming BB10 phone appeared online. 

    As if there was any doubt that mobile is now a two-horse race, Apple has taken over the No. 2 spot behind Samsung as an OEM producer. 

With all the heavyweight action between Samsung and Apple, it can be easy to overlook the other mobile players throwing patent actions at each other. The latest round sees a victory for Nokia as it wins a WLAN renegotiation dispute against the BlackBerry maker.
