Bluenog (news, site) co-founder Suresh Kuppusamy has stepped aside to make room for the new CEO, Joe Valley.

Valley packs a ton of experience, including CEO positions at NCT, Inc., MIS USA, Momentum Software corporation and Seranin Software Corporation. He has also served as the president and COO for QueryObjean, an Amex-traded global business intelligence software company.

"Joe's deep experience in the enterprise software market, outstanding leadership qualities and focus on building profitable companies will enable us to expand and extend our Bluenog ICE product suite," said Sastry Taruvai, co-founder and chief information officer. "We are excited to have Joe leading the Bluenog team towards its next phase of growth and success."

Though Kuppusamy is stepping down, he's not going very far. The co-founder will resume his post as Chief Technology Officer.

"The co-founders have built a great product and a great team," said Valley. "Now with the tremendous acceptance Bluenog ICE has received in the higher education market, we are poised to take the company into the burgeoning healthcare market as well."

The subject of open source software licensing is rarely considered titillating. More often it inspires early afternoon naps.

Well, there's been a change in the script and we've got a small civil war on our hands. Tempers and tensions have risen between US-based Bluenog and Netherlands-based Hippo -- both companies deal in the content management space, both are tinkering with open source.

Now it's not the fight we're interested in -- though it's been a fun interlude of Days of Our [Software] Lives. Rather, it's the principles behind the issue that are worth paying attention to.

In short, Bluenog has been accused of violating Hippo's and Apache's software licenses by using Hippo's code and not properly giving attribution. We had a chat with both parties. Here's what they had to say.

Though it was only yesterday that Bluenog (news, site) announced the newest iteration of their integrated collaborative environment, better known as Bluenog ICE, the company is already back with more exciting news. Good Samaritans that they are, Bluenog plans to contribute back the enhancements it made to various open source projects during the development phase of Bluenog ICE 4.5.

Simply put, Bluenog ICE is a mash-up of an open source content management system, portal and business intelligence tools. The juiciest part of 4.5 is arguably the inclusion of wikis, thanks to the JSPWiki Open Source Project. Accordingly, initial contributions will center on JSPWiki, which also adds support for page level permissions. Bedework, the open source system responsible for ICE 4.5’s calendaring application, will reportedly also get some early play.

"Our contributions will make it easier for the open source community to use projects such as JetSpeed, Apache, Eclipse and JSPWiki and leverage the expertise and production-ready enhancements Bluenog has developed,” Said Suresh Kuppusamy, CEO and co-founder, Bluenog. “This will help shorten development lifecycles and improve the quality and reliability of applications based on these projects."

No complaints here; although, considering the fact that Bluenog ICE won’t be released to the general public until June 30th, tidbits like this probably only feed the fervor of all you hardcore fans. Sorry about that.

We imagine the creation of Bluenog’s (news, site) flagship solution went down a little like this: Someone was tired of switching between their portal, content management system and business intelligence tools, so they threw all three into a melting pot, stirred it up, and *BAM!* out popped Bluenog ICE.

OK, so maybe that’s not how it went. Whatever the case, the recipe is still a stellar one, and the recognition the company’s received certainly proves it. Today at Boston's Enterprise 2.0 conference Bluenog announced that ICE is back for another round, this time as version 4.5. The new software includes an Enterprise Wiki, secure group calendaring features and enhanced centralized administration.

After all the turmoil the economy has spurned upon us throughout the last year, higher education still remains a steadfast institution. Banks, auto makers and publishers may come and go, but education remains solid. Sure, tuition may be higher, but enrollment is still thriving.

Perhaps then it is why Bluenog (news, site), a software solutions company, has extended an invitation to those in the higher education sector to join the enterprise.
