The first roll-up of the New Year and things are already beginning to move. If you want to look ahead, the Real Story Group has released its market analysis for 2012, while a number of companies including Cabinet NG, Kofax, Aptus and Accusoft Pegasus have new releases or upgrades worth looking at.

It may be the summer, but there’s still life in the document management space. Fujitsu has announced it is taking its SaaS document services to Japan, CNG offers financial people an easier way to keep their documents compliant, Google Docs increases storage space, Box.net offers LincDoc and Wolfram has produced a new doc format.

If things are slowing down on the run up to the holiday weekend, it was a busy week in GRC. Symantec research shows iOS and Android to be more secure than PCs, OpenText is offering archiving and records management of social content through Social WorkPlace, Cabinet NG digs deeper into the legal space and Clearwell looks at cloud computing and e-Discovery.

This week, we look at why users of Google Docs, and more generally Google Apps, will have to upgrade their browsers, the new Kofax and Pegasystems integration, Nuxeo’s DM upgrade, Cabinet NG’s enhancements to CNG-WEB and the possible release of Office 365 by the end of June.

Document management software developer Cabinet NG (news, site) continues to develop v6.0, this time with the release of v6.2.1.241, which is specifically designed to work with Windows 7/Windows Server 8 R2 and improve its user interface.

The company says the benefits of this minor upgrade to users is that it will give them new and intuitive user interfaces, improved security and reliability features, as well as a new tools to keep them connected to data stored on the Web.

Already a very well-endowed document management system, Cabinet NG says the upgrade required very few changes to the existing system.

However, what is worth noting here is that the company says the changes will serve as a new base level for future enhancements and enable CNG-SAFE to keep in step with developments in Microsoft technology.

The other upgrade with this minor version is improvement to the interface, although the company hasn’t said exactly what shape those improvements have taken.

In this respect you might recall that in September, CNG was voted a ‘Top 20’ CRN-tested SMB product with the management consoles described as easy to navigate but not as “flashy”, or graphically appealing as some. Cheeky!

Could it be that Cabinet NG in a pique of vanity went out and upgraded CNG-SAFE interfaces while they were upgrading it for Windows 7? This latest version is available now.

If little things mean a lot then Cabinet NG’s (news, site) CNG-SAFE (Shared Access Filing Environment) is a whole lot as they just keep adding to it, the case in point this time being two new search products that will make life a lot easier for its clients.

What do you do if you run a small business, need a collaboration environment, but can’t afford SharePoint? Central Desktop (news, site) which provides a SaaS platform for small businesses, is offering such a solution to Intuit's Quickbook users by making it available through Intuit’s App Center.

For those not familiar with it, Central Desktop is a collaboration tool built on Web 2.0 technology for small business that is scalable and gives users a full range of collaboration tools including wikis, document sharing, task management and shared calendars.

Intuit’s App Center is an online market where users of Intuit’s business software Quickbooks Pro and Premier can trial and purchase applications that work directly out of Quickbooks.

While it is not clear how much users will be charged for using it on the IAC, Central Desktop has three different editions: Workgroup, Enterprise and Community.

There are a number of small differences between the three editions, but the only real difference is the pricing, which is based on the number of users. The Workgroup edition, which is for less than 25 users will cost up to US $99/ month, while the Enterprise edition for unlimited users costs US $10 per user/month. The community edition, again for more than 25 users, is US$ 3 month.

This is only the most recent addition to the Intuit platform. Earlier this month it went into partnership with Cabinet NG which extended Intuit’s own document management software.

Cabinet NG (news, site) has just notched up another scalp with the announcement that it has gone into partnership with DataNet, a software provider for the not-for-profit and free medical services sector.

The partnership will see Cabinet NG’s document management software integrated into DataNet’s MedServices, which provides all levels of patient tracking including prescriptions, electronic medical records and scheduling from a single interface.

Combined with CNG-SAFE (Shared Access Filing Environment), DataNet will be able to utilize complete chart, document and workflow management in medical centres that are specifically for people who have no, or very little, medical insurance.

  Cabinet NG (news, site) and Tigerpaw Software have integrated their respective document management and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. Marriage of these two products, at least superficially, looks like a good match.

 Cabinet NG (news, site) has announced that it is extending its complete document management software, CNG-SAFE, to Intuit’s Quickbooks accounting software, giving users a number of new features that have not been available to them to date on Intuit’s Developers Network (IDN).

While a lot of companies brag a lot about these two particular aspects of their products, in this case the claims have to be taken at face value as even the testers in their report said they started the testing skeptical, and came of out it impressed.

CNG has officially joined the ranks of the SaaS content management providers. CNG-Online is the SaaS-based alternative to CNG-Safe, designed for those who no longer want the burden of hardware and software setup and maintenance.

Cabinet NG (CNG) has recently released the CNG-Web module that enables users to remotely connect to CNG-SAFE, a solution for automated document management and workflow targeted towards small enterprises.

Customers with access to the CNG-Web module are capable of searching, viewing and printing documents with nothing more than a Web browser and an Internet connection.

If you are using Cabinet NG’s CNG-SAFE document management system and have been looking for a way to integrate it better with your business applications, look no further. Cabinet NG has just announced the availability of a .Net API called — what else — CNG-API, a .net development framework.

Cabinet NG, a company that specializes in automated document management and workflow solutions for small enterprise businesses, has launched CNG-Books 6.0 document management software for Intuit’s QuickBooks. Built on the .NET platform, CNG-Books 6.0 incorporates Microsoft SQL database features recently added to CNG-SAFE 6.0.

The end result: SMBs can replace pesky piles of paper with automated electronic workflows that streamline QuickBooks-centric accounting tasks in an easier, less hair-greying manner.
