New school year begins, and Microsoft has been very, very busy with upgrades to its Office Web Apps only two months after it is released. SAP, in the meantime, started reselling SteamServe’s document automation solution under a new name.

Open Text (news, site) has been offering a number of SharePoint based solutions and services for a while now. But thanks to their recent acquisition of Burntsand, they now have a full end-to-end implementation service offering for SharePoint 2010.

On July 15th there was an interesting Tweet Jam (on Twitter) related to managing unstructured processes with Adaptive Case Management (ACM). There was lot of discussion on the similarities and differences between ACM and business process management, and tweets related to why its important, best practices and more.

Not much is new under the ECM sun nowadays. A case management framework is not an exception. But nice to see Nuxeo (news, site) being an active Energizer Bunny and continuing to build on top of its open source Enterprise CMS. This time, it's CMF.

A quick update on the EMC (news, site) Documentum xCP Designer's Challenge we told you about last month. The challenge, initiated May, was open to anyone who wanted to demonstrate how easy it was to build real world case management applications using EMC Documentum xCP.

xCP is a platform that allows you to build and deliver case-based solutions rapidly. It includes pre-packaged and pre-integrated components for content management, business process management, monitoring and reporting, compliance, intelligent capture, collaboration and customer communications management.

The winner of the Challenge were announced yesterday at Momentum Europe 2009. It was Booz Allen Hamilton for its RoadPulse Application. Developed in 8 days, it is a local and state government notification system for infrastructure concerns.

Second place went to Avantias for its Education Center application and third went to Trends Global for its Healthcare Content Collaboration Gateway application.

The Designer's Challenge was definitely a smart way for EMC to show the world how easy it is to build case management solutions on their xCP platform. Seeing it in action is much better than reading the marketing buzz.

When EMC Documentum's (news, site) xCelerated Composition Platform (xCP) was released in June of this year, it was not to great fanfare. But that didn't mean that EMC didn't think they had a great platform on their hands. They wanted to clearly demonstrate the cost and time savings it provided -- "proof points",  Whitney Tidmarsh, Chief Marketing Officer, Content Management and Archiving Division called them.

Now they have those proof points with the announcement of five finalist companies from their Documentum xCP Designer's Challenge. Read on to learn more about the xCP Platform and the Challenge.

If you are hanging out at the AIIM Conference the next few days, you are going to hear some interesting news and announcements from EMC (news, site). Along with some revealing research conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit, sponsored by EMC, on the impact and importance of organizational agility, EMC is also announcing some new solutions designed to help customers work smarter.

Open Text is demonstrating a new development platform for Sharepoint at the Microsoft Office Systems Developer Conference in San Jose this week. The Open Text Case Management Framework aims to streamline development time for Case management for MOSS, and incorporates a variety of MOSS extensions which add up to greater automation and less reinvention of the wheel during the Case development lifecycle.
