While our host waxes poetic about dinosaurs, I’m going to take an opportunity to update you on all the good that’s gone down this morning.

Sun Microsystems senior staff engineer Tor Norbye kicked us off this morning with Ruby Tooling: State of the Art. For those expecting the him to get dangerously gung-ho about Ruby’s merits (Sun is, after all, getting quite intimate with jRuby), we (yeah, we) were mildly disappointed.

In case you haven’t caught onto this Web 2.0 thing yet, now there is help. On April 15-18, San Francisco’s Moscone West will host Web 2.0 Expo, an event so grand it doesn’t even need an article to precede its name.

The second annual Gilbane Conference on Content Technologies will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington D.C. on June 5-6, 2007. Presented by The Gilbane Group, Lighthouse Seminars and CMS Watch, this conference aims to bring together government and industry executives to discuss content management best practices.

With a concentrated focus on previous lessons learned and best practices, the conference will be chaired by Tony Byrne. “Washington, DC is perhaps the most content-rich city on earth,” said Byrne. “Among associations, non-profit organizations, publishing firms, consultancies, universities, and of course the federal government, we see enterprises generating much more digital content than they have systems today to adequately manage. This conference can help them get a much better handle on the problem.”

The Drupal news keeps on coming this week. DrupalCamp @ IDMI will be a comfy place for inspired Drupalers to put their heads together and shake out some brilliant ideas for the next great add-on module or web app. If you’re a Drupal kid and will be in NY next weekend, trip on by the gathering.

Now you have another reason to go. Open Text will be showcasing their latest Enterprise CMS solutions at their upcoming Summit 2007, a worldwide user conference for Hummingbird customers and partners. Attended by over 900 individuals, it will be held at the Hyatt Resort & Spa in Huntington Beach, California from February 11th through 14th.

As if you needed another excuse to break out the corporate Amex and expense a trip to NYC, LinuxWorld’s Open Solutions Summit cranks up February 14th for two days at the Marriott Marquis.

Can a web site persuade you to be politically active? Can a mobile phone motivate you to exercise? Does instant feedback on gasoline use change how people drive? Do online rating systems inspire people to behave better online?

These are the questions asked and answered at Stanford’s PERSUASIVE 07 conference, coming in the second quarter of 2007. If you’ve got something to say and feel like doing it in writing, the call for papers has been extended to Jan 15th.

The third Les Blogs conference is just over the near horizon, taking place in Paris next Monday, December 11. We wouldn’t miss this one. But sadly, unless you’ve already registered, its too late.
