Big Medium CMS Targets Designers

BigMedium content management for designers

Leave it to the Parisians to build and market a CMS tool for designers. The Paris-based company Global Moxie and its Chief Scientist, Josh Clark (okay, so he’s an American in Paris…) announced the release of Big Medium 2, a web content management system aimed squarely at web designers.

Why? Because designers are awesome, that’s why!

Quark And Alfresco Announce New Partnership

Quark & Alfresco content management

It used to be that you weren’t a designer if you didn’t use QuarkXPress - the product that revolutionized the field of desktop publishing. That was before In Design and other Adobe products came to dominate the field and rallied the next generation of designers.

But Quark has been gaining ground during the past year. They launched QuarkXPress7 with incorporated XML capabilities and released Quark Publishing System 7 which helped to streamline the editorial and creative workflow processes while improving production.

Now, they’re partnering with Alfresco Software, Inc. to “develop integrated enterprise-class publishing and content management solutions for professional and corporate publishers.”

emagiC CMS.NET is .NET-based and runs off an all-Microsoft stack of IIS, Windows Server and SQL Server. After all that it then has the cheek to request XP/Vista and Internet Explorer for the administration interface!

Probably the most talked about Service Pack in history is on the horizon, maybe as soon as this week: SP1 for WSS 3.0 and SharePoint (MOSS) Server 2007.

It’s what SharePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0 administrators, architects and developers have been anxiously anticipating. And it’s jam-packed with goodies.

Well okay, not jam-packed…

Plone Foundation Sets Open Source Standards

Plone Content Management

In May 2004, the Plone Foundation was formed as a supporting organization for Plone, an open source web content management solution. They have finally achieved one of their key objectives — to have the Plone community at large take ownership of the “Plone” word in nearly all areas of the world.

In doing so, the open source community has set the bar just that much higher for what we all consider “open source”.

Open Text Draws Accolades for ECM Savvy

Open Text Enterprise Content Management

It’s always nice when your blood, sweat and tears get recognized by the critics in your field. This is that time for Open Text.

Forrester Research has just named Open Text a global big player in its report, The Forrester Wave: Enterprise Content Management Suites, Q4 2007.

According to Forrester, Open Text was the only pure-play ECM software provider worthy to be called leader amongst the 11 companies researched.

60 criteria served as battering rams to gauge an enterprise content management system’s quality.

Livelink ECM has long been the shining star in Open Text’s suite, and it apparently shined brighter still on paper after the gleam Forrester gave it. “Open Text Livelink ECM shows great breadth and depth, with strong scoring in core ECM capabilities — document imaging, document management, records management, and content archiving — plus good support for web content management and digital asset management,” the report reads.

That’s a lot of bases to cover.

Congrats to Open Text. Being crowned King by the cold, hard analysts of the world has earned you a hat-tip, and maybe a few round of drinks, to boot.
