Is it the destiny of digital asset management to disappear? According to DAM vendor NetXposure, keeping DAM hidden, even as it becomes an uber-system, works out just fine for many clients.

This week in digital asset management news: FileCatalyst and Aspera provide speedy file transfer technology, OpenText releases Media Management 7.2 and its Portal, Extensis unveils Portfolio Server 11, and how you can evaluate the ROI of your DAM. 

A new month and new upgrades from OpenText. This time it tackles the problem of large file transfers with the release today of version 7.2 of its Media Management offering, as well as the release of Portal for Media Management.

Digital asset and font management provider Extensis released the latest version of its Portfolio Server DAM software today. Version 11 provides visual search results, customizable metadata fields, and drag and drop capabilities.

The DAM week has gone by already. In recent digital asset management news: NetXposure’s Keyword helper, findability, Elvis and Woodwing’s Enterprise, DRM and Dr. Berners-Lee and Zoom 4.0 from evolphin. 

Out with a new version of its Enterprise multi-channel publishing system is WoodWing. This time around it's featuring a deeper integration with its digital asset management solution, Elvis.

I recently sat on a DAM discussion panel during which I repeatedly mouthed off about the way DAM ought to be if, you know, it were entirely up to me.

Adobe touts its Adobe CQ platform and the various marketing solutions it supports and integrates with as a means for marketers to easily manage and deliver multichannel digital content. However, while Adobe’s promotional materials provide an interesting overview of CQ, there is nothing better than actual end user experience to illustrate how well a particular technology works.

A fellow Digital Asset Management (DAM) professional asked me whether I believe part of our job was to minimize liability within an organization. I answered yes. In fact, there are plenty of reasons why this is true and why organizations use this (in part) as another justification to acquire, implement and use Digital Asset Management properly.

Adobe ended this year’s Adobe Summit 2013 digital marketing conference with the traditional “Adobe Sneaks” session that offer brief sneak previews of products that are either in development or beta testing. The session takes a more lighthearted approach, with an open bar and this year actress/musician Carrie Brownstein (of “Portlandia” and Sleater-Kinney fame) served as co-host and provided wry commentary throughout.
