 As Apple rumbles toward yet another App Store milestone, there's hard cash (well iTunes gift cards) in it for the lucky few who download an app at just the right time. 

 If you're wondering just how big the potential for apps is, Apple has seen users download 40 billion apps since the arrival of its App Store, with nearly half of those being grabbed in 2012.

Apple has dedicated its entire front page to the countdown towards 25 billion app downloads, with a lucky winner about to win a mountain of apps via a US$ 10,000 store voucher.

As Apple celebrates its part of 1.2 billion app downloads last week, those centuries-past, paper-based tomes are the focus of the company's first big news in 2012.
