Australian Web CMS vendor Elcom is expanding its US operations with a new office in San Francisco. The California location opens just 18 months after Elcom opened its first North American office in New York City.

Last September Australian-based Elcom released v7.5 of its elcomCMS. At the time it was already looking forward to v8. Well v8 has finally landed and it focuses this time on social content management for website, intranets, extranets and mobile sites, offering enterprises the ability to use social media in secure controlled environments.

We had the time to sit down with a few vendors during Gartner: Portals, Content and Collaboration Summit 2012 and learn about trends, insights and influences affecting the social enterprise. Whether it be video delivery and management, portal and community management, or holistic web content management, one thing is clear -- the enterprise is becoming more socially engaged from the inside out.

I’d like to tell you a story. I was a major bank’s customer for a few years, but had to switch to another bank as I moved to California. I left the account open with just enough money to carry me until I could close it. One day, I looked at my account and saw that I had been getting charged a monthly service charge because an unauthorized transaction had made me dip below the limit without me knowing. I called the bank’s 800 number and asked to be credited, with no result, even after speaking to a manager. I asked to close my account and was told to “Call this other 800 number.”
